Erika Hall, Mohs Histotechnician and Lab Operations Manager
Erika Hall is indeed a remarkable asset to the MODERN Dermatology office, serving as the Jane of all Trades and bearing an uncanny resemblance to Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years. Since joining forces with Dr. Thosani as her Mohs Histotechnician in 2015, Erika's dedication and expertise have proven indispensable. With the establishment of MODERN Dermatology in October 2022, her responsibilities have expanded beyond the confines of the Mohs Lab. From overseeing administrative tasks to providing invaluable support to our medical professionals, her role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities that contribute to the success of our clinic. Erika trained in Chicago to become a Mohs Histotechncian and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts Theatre, specializing in Stage Management from ASU. She worked as a stage manager for local productions and even toured nationally with Peter and the Wolf. Outside of work, Erika enjoys motherhood and camping with her boys, Wyatt and Xander. She also has two furry companions, Arlo and True. She supports her husband's Theatre Company and contributes to the arts community. Erika brings professionalism, versatility, and genuine care to MODERN Dermatology.
Charity is a highly skilled Clinical Specialist with over 10 years of experience in dermatology. Her passion for the field began during medical assistant school and has continued to grow throughout her career. Known for being hardworking, friendly, and dependable, Charity is dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care and supporting both patients and her team with strong clinical knowledge and a warm, welcoming presence.
Outside of the clinic, Charity’s greatest joy is her family. She is a proud mom of two and loves cheering on her kids at their activities. In her downtime, she enjoys getting lost in a good book, trying new restaurants, traveling, and savoring the rare treat of an uninterrupted movie with her significant other. Family time is incredibly important to Charity, and she always looks forward to gatherings with loved ones. She also shares her home with her dog, Milo, who happily completes the family.
Charity Gonzales- Clinical Specialist
Giovonni is not only our lead medical assistant and resident sneaker aficionado here at MODERN Dermatology, but he is also a true expert in his field. With years of experience working as a medical assistant in dermatology, Giovonni has developed a deep understanding of the complexities and intricacies of the field. From assisting with medical procedures to providing compassionate care to patients, his dedication and skill are unmatched. Since starting his career in dermatology at the young age of 19, Giovonni has continuously grown and excelled in his role. Joining Dr. Thosani's team in 2020 has further expanded his knowledge and expertise, allowing him to provide top-notch service to our patients. His friendly demeanor and ability to connect with people make him a natural fit for his role as a medical assistant. When he's not busy caring for patients, Giovonni enjoys doing outdoor activities like camping, paddle boarding, and boating. He loves being in nature and making the most of his free time. He always wears sunscreen to protect his skin from the sun's harmful rays. Giovonni's dachshunds, Oliver and Berkley, often join him on his adventures, creating special memories.

Danielle is not only a skilled and experienced medical assistant in dermatology, but she is also a loving and dedicated family person. With 16 years of dedicated service under her belt, Danielle's clinical expertise shines through in her everyday work. However, her passion for her family life is just as strong. She finds immense joy in the company of her husband, four children, and two lovable labradoodles. In their free time, the family enjoys exploring nature together, often venturing onto hiking trails for a serene escape from their busy lives. It is this perfect balance between professional proficiency and family warmth that truly sets Danielle apart in the dynamic realm of dermatology. Her exceptional skills, compassionate nature, and unwavering commitment make her an invaluable asset to our practice, driving us ever closer to our goal of enhancing the lives and restoring the confidence of all those who seek our care.

Jessica is a recent graduate with a degree in Medical Assisting, excited to begin her career in healthcare. Passionate about helping others, she brings a compassionate and patient-centered approach to every interaction, ensuring that patients feel supported and cared for. Eager to apply her knowledge in a real-world setting, Jessica is committed to making a positive impact in the healthcare field.
Outside of work, Jessica loves spending time with her family, enjoying outdoor activities, and exploring her creative side through crafting. She believes in balancing a fulfilling career with time for personal growth and connections.

Ruben Villezcas is a highly experienced medical assistant with over 15 years of expertise in dermatology. Throughout his career, Ruben has built a strong reputation for delivering exceptional patient care, assisting with dermatologic procedures, and supporting patients with professionalism and compassion. His dedication to the field and commitment to excellence make him a valued and trusted member of the dermatology team.
Outside of the clinic, Ruben leads a full and vibrant life. He is married and the proud owner of a catering business, Sandwiches and S’more, where his creativity and entrepreneurial spirit truly shine. Ruben is also a devoted pet parent to his three dogs—Leo, Milo, and Kona—who keep him busy and entertained. You might not notice it at first, but Ruben is a true Disney aficionado, whether he’s planning trips to the parks or giving tours of his Disney-themed home. His enthusiasm, both at work and at play, makes him a joy to be around.

Isaris Gonzalez is a dedicated medical assistant with over 15 years of experience in healthcare. Originally from Miami, Florida, she recently made Arizona her new home and brings with her a strong reputation for compassion, reliability, and exceptional patient care. Isaris takes pride in supporting not only the patients she serves, but also her coworkers, helping foster a positive, collaborative environment. Her genuine love for helping others, paired with empathy and integrity, has shaped her long and successful career in medicine.
Outside of the clinic, Isaris cherishes spending quality time with family and friends. One of her greatest joys is cooking, and you’ll often find her dancing around the kitchen while preparing meals for the people she loves. As she puts down roots in Arizona, Isaris continues to share her warmth, experience, and dedication with her new community, staying true to her lifelong passion for caring for others.

Mercy is a dermatology medical assistant who is dedicated to building trust with patients, supporting providers with accuracy and efficiency, and contributing to a positive, uplifting team environment. As she grows in the field of dermatology, Mercy brings enthusiasm, attentiveness, and a strong commitment to delivering quality patient care.
Outside of the clinic, Mercy enjoys slowing down and recharging. When she’s not in scrubs, you’ll often find her spending time with friends and family, getting lost in a good book, enjoying a peaceful walk, or binge-watching her favorite shows. Her calm, thoughtful nature and positive energy make her a wonderful addition to both the team and the patient experience.
Mercy Bongomin, MA
Emely may have a quiet exterior, but don’t let that fool you—she is an experienced medical assistant with a deep passion for caring for her patients. Emely especially loves working in Mohs surgery, where she takes pride in helping rid the world of skin cancer one patient at a time. Her focus, compassion, and dedication make her a valued member of the Modern Family and a comforting presence for patients throughout their care.
Outside of the clinic, Emely is committed to continuing her education and is actively working toward getting into nursing school. An interesting fun fact about Emely is that she taught herself Korean, inspired by her love for watching Korean dramas and listening to K-pop. Whether she’s supporting patients, expanding her medical knowledge, or learning a new language, Emely approaches everything she does with passion and determination.

Karen Servin, MA and Front Desk
Known by her nickname Kare-Bear, Karen truly lives up to the name. Whether she’s assisting patients as a medical assistant in the back office or greeting and checking in patients at the front desk, Karen brings genuine care, kindness, and a positive attitude to every interaction. She joined our team fresh out of medical assisting school and has grown by leaps and bounds, continually developing her skills and confidence while providing excellent patient care.
Outside of the clinic, Karen enjoys spending time with the people she loves most. You’ll often find her helping her family, hanging out with her boyfriend, or snuggling her fluffy pup and her newest family member—an adorable orange tabby. Her warm heart and dedication, both at work and at home, make Karen a wonderful part of our team.
Billie Shomer- Pathology Coordinator and Scheduler
Billie comes to Modern Dermatology with 33 years of experience in the dermatology field, filling a variety of roles from front desk, medical assistant, surgery scheduler, and so much more. Billie has a passion for dermatology and for helping patients. As pathology coordinator and surgery schedule she gets to help patients by explaining their biopsy results and getting them scheduled for the appropriate treatments. Outside of work you will find Billie hiking, fishing, gardening, making jewelry, cooking or traveling (to countries in Europe if she has her choice). She also enjoys spending time with her companion James and their 3 adorable pups.
Maxine Brown, Front Desk
Put your roller skates on if you're trying to keep up with Maxine! In addition to working the front desk at our Shea office, she's also part of Scottsdale's vibrant food & beverage industry. But it doesn't stop there, she is a dedicated gym rat and owns a small business reselling vintage dresses. Maxine has 12 years of medical front office experience but has always had a love for aesthetics and makes sure to keep her toes in Dermatology. Like your favorite sitcom character that disappears during season one but returns middle of season three, Maxine has worked with some members of Modern Derm in the past. When she's not busy working a million jobs, Maxine enjoys spending time with her pets, sipping on margaritas, and nagging her younger coworkers about wearing SPF.
